Salma Abdelnour Book Signing

Description:

The Arab American Cultural and Community Center will host a book signing featuring author and culinary enthusiast Salma Abdelnour and an art exhibit of works by local artist Hadeel Mujarkesh on June 18, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.

Abdelnour, Houston native and world-renowned culinary enthusiast, recently released her book Jasmine and Fire: A Bittersweet Year in Beirut with Random House Publishing Group.

Jasmine and Fire is the tale of Abdelnour’s journey of attempting to resettle in Beirut and fumbling through the new realities of life in one of the world’s most complex, legendary, ever vibrant and ever troubled cities. What’s more, in a year of roiling changes around the Middle East and the rise of the Arab Spring, Abdelnour finds herself in the midst of the turmoil, experiencing it all up close.  As she comes to grips with all the changes in her life, a love left behind in New York and new relationships blossoming in Beirut, she takes comfort in some of Lebanon’s traditions, particularly its food culture. Through the sights, sounds, and flavors of a city full of beauty, tragedy, despair, and hope, Abdelnour slowly begins to reconnect with the place she’s longed for her entire life.

Abdelnour is a writer and editor based in New York City. She has served as travel editor of Food & Wine, the food editor of O, The Oprah Magazine, and the restaurant editor of Time Out New York.

Copies of Jasmine and Fire will be available at the event.
